GLOUCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS - The American Canoe Association Ocean Racing Committee is pleased to announce the selection of the Blackburn Challenge as the official host of the 2026 USA Canoe Ocean Racing National Championships.
Long recognized as one of the premier open-water endurance events in North America, the Blackburn’s 20-mile circumnavigation of Cape Ann brings together elite and recreational athletes. Its reputation as the “Boston Marathon” of open-water racing and its ability to attract competitors from across the United States and abroad make it an ideal venue for a national-level championship aligned with ACA’s vision for elevating competitive standards, strengthening community engagement, and fostering safe, high-quality racing experiences.
The Blackburn Challenge’s uniquely demanding course has earned the event a reputation for testing skill, endurance, and seamanship. True to its heritage, the event proceeds in all but the most severe weather, requiring ocean racing athletes to be experienced, self-reliant, and prepared for dynamic open-water environments. This ethos aligns closely with the ACA’s core commitments to safety and excellence.
By selecting the Blackburn as the host of the 2026 USA COR National Championships, the ACA celebrates a storied New England tradition and offers U.S. ocean racing athletes a world-class competitive stage befitting the continued growth of the COR discipline.
