GLOUCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS - History was made in the Columbia River Gorge on July 19, 2025 as sixty-two paddlers from across the country lined up to compete in the first-ever USA Canoe Ocean Racing (COR) National Championships, held in partnership with the 2025 Gorge Downwind Championships. This milestone event marked the debut of a formally-recognized national title for ICF-spec surfski paddling under the umbrella of the American Canoe Association (ACA). The 2025 championship featured a fast, technical downwind course and a field that included both elite contenders and enthusiastic new racers — reflecting the sport’s growing depth and reach in the United States.
Active ACA members participating in the Blackburn’s main race were automatically entered into the USA COR National Championships field. The A1-classified event awarded National Ranking Points to eligible participants of the USA Surfski National Series, and official ACA medals were awarded to podium finishers in Overall and Age Group divisions.
Special thanks to the Cape Ann Rowing Club for producing an outstanding open water competition, for four decades!
